As buyers of green coffee from diverse countries around the world, we examined numerous certifying organizations and found the sustainability-focused values of Rainforest Alliance to be most in line with our own at Joe Coffee.

That’s why we choose to source at least 80% of our coffees from Rainforest Alliance-certified producers. Their work goes beyond the environment and into the lives of all who work on the land, including initiatives to improve children’s access to education, promote gender equity, and work toward a true living wage for farm families. This commitment ensures that each step in the process upholds rigorous social, economic, and environmental sustainability standards.

Independent, third-party auditors evaluate all supply chain actors, including farmers and roasters like us, against requirements in all three areas before awarding or renewing certification. This holistic approach allows us to contribute to a more equitable and sustainable coffee supply stream, from farm to cup. We’re proud to uphold this accountability—it’s an essential part of fostering a more sustainable industry.

We roast every batch in NYC with precision and care, but our mission extends beyond coffee. Through ourethical sourcing and sustainability initiatives, we invest in farmers, employees, and local communities. 

Non-Profit Support

We’re proud of our commitment to social responsibility and actively support charities such as Community Voices Heard, 9 Million Reasons, and the Lincoln Center Young Artist Pipeline. We offer customers the opportunity to round up their purchases at checkout and provide coffee donations to local events. Additionally, we donate $1 for each bag sold of special release coffees, including our Rockefeller and Lincoln Center blends.

From participating in open streets events during the summer to introducing convenient payment options on college campuses, we strive to promote accessibility and inclusivity. Empowering Women Coffee Producers

The Village is a celebration of women in coffee, composed of seasonally-rotating selections from valued relationships with female producers and cooperatives, aimed at highlighting and addressing gender equity in the industry. Investing in women increases sustainability in coffee farming—women are more likely to reinvest their income back into their families, coffee businesses, and local communities.
