Our Top Shelf line is a group of limited selections designed to highlight the most memorable, thought-provoking coffees in the world.
The Karimikui Coffee Factory in Kenya’s Kirinyaga region dates back to the 1970s, as part of the Runget’o Cooperative Society to which the Karimikui, Kii, and Kiangoi factories also belong. The Runget’o Co-op is made up of more than 4,300 active member farmers—almost half of whom are women. The co-op also operates a dairy cooling plant and a fueling station, helping its member farmers diversify their income.
Coffee production here at Karimikui has been growing steadily, having increased from 60 metric tons per year to 85 over the last several years. The coffee is made up of lots from 1,400 registered smallholder farmers.
This coffee is made of SL-28 and SL-34 varieties grown at an altitude of 1,600-1,700 meters above sea level. It is harvested between October and December, and is washed in fresh water and then sun-dried on raised beds.
