This coffee from Honduras is the combined effort of four producing families in the Santa Bárbara region. Each coffee itself a beautiful exemplar of coffees from this part of the world; together they are truly greater than the sum of their parts. We’ve called it Cuatro Joyas, meaning Four Jewels.
Cuatro Joyas comprises four coffees: Finca Ruland, El Naciente, Flor de Café, and Mejia, each shade-grown at elevations between 1300 and 1700 meters above sea level. It includes the coffee varieties Pacas, Bourbon, and IHCAFE 90, a Timor-Caturra hybrid cultivated by the Instituto Hondureño del Café. Each coffee is washed and then dried on raised or parabolic drying beds.
These special coffees were brought together through our buying relationship with San Vicente, a family-run exporting company which works to support smallholder farmers in this region of Honduras. When tasting the best of their new harvest, we found that this combination of coffees from these very small farms—some as small as just over a hectare—worked beautifully together.
