Coffee Together, Apart I: Tasting Together

Coffee Together, Apart I - Tasting Together is an introduction to coffee tasting through a guided virtual cupping. Cupping is a process used to evaluate different coffees side by side, used by green buyers to choose which coffees to purchase, by roasters to help guide their roast profiles, and by baristas to know how best to brew and serve coffees in the cafe. It’s also a wonderful education tool for coffee enthusiasts to taste a variety of coffees in a controlled environment. While we can’t host students in our lab for a collective cupping experience, we are excited to offer a guided virtual version. This class will cover cupping technique and protocol, and will also focus on essential tasting techniques and terminology commonly used in the industry. Ahead of the class, participants will be given instructions on how to properly set up a cupping with whatever wares they have available. In order to truly taste together (apart), we’ll need to be tasting the same coffees! All students will need to order two 12-ounce bags of coffee, linked below. (Use code BELLABOGO to receive your bag of Guatemala Bella Carmona for free!) Coffee for cupping must be ground to a specific size. If you have a burr grinder at home, order whole bean coffee and we’ll discuss the size in class. If you don’t have a burr grinder at home, fret not—we can grind it to the perfect size for you! Just select “Automatic Drip” from the dropdown menu for both coffees.

Note: While our roasting and production teams are roasting, packing and shipping coffees as quickly as possible, there may be delays in delivery due to the impact ongoing crisis is having on shipping carriers. We recommend ordering coffee no less than 1 week ahead of class if using USPS, or selecting UPS.
