History of Coffee 101

In the class, we’ll explore coffee’s past, essentially the history of colonialism and slavery. The structure for how we purchase coffee was put into place a long time ago and, as coffee professionals, we believe it’s important to gain a deeper knowledge of these systems in order to see more clearly where we are and what we can do today to work toward racial equity. There are a surprising number of overlaps with American history, and it’s important to our work to understand them.
